Come home.”
Thomas Locke has offered up a mind-blowing novel with “Trial Run,” a first in the “Fault Lines” series by the man who is also known as popular author Davis Bunn.
You will need to put on your thinking cap is you read this incredibly amazing, yet deeply scientific, novel. “Trial Run” deals with two factions who are attempting similar goals: the study of human consciousness and whether it can be separated from Newtonian physics and cross the nature of time — a process they call “transitioning” and “ascending.”
Adding to the deeply scientific nature is Trent Major, a student in theoretical physics who teams up with business student Shane Schearer. Prodded on by visions and messages from his future self, Trent forms a partnership with the lovely Shane to share his work on quantum computing — work which eventually makes its way to one of the “ascending” factions.
Locke’s first “Fault Lines” installment is an intriguing, amazing read, one that will force you to question your ideas of human awareness and the concept of time, and the use of these for either good or bad. If these concepts can truly become a reality, should they be used as a weapon, or only for the good of man?
“Trial Run” is filled with many interesting and fascinating characters. It also touches on the themes of remorse and guilt, hope and trust, and the power of love and its ability to act as a shield and protector.
Because it is a little lofty (meaning deeply academic) at times for the non-scientific reader, I will give this book four and a half stars out of five.
