Days 10 & 11 - At Sea
1.15.11 - We didn't do a whole lot today, just enjoyed our day at sea. We did go hear author Ridley Pearson speak again, this time about his "Peter and the Starcatchers" series, which is a sort of prequel to the Peter Pan story. How Peter Pan became Peter Pan.
We watched some football ... playoffs! Steelers beat Ravens and Packers beat the Falcons.
Tonight was semi-formal night. We got our picture taken with Mickey and Minnie in their finest duds. Then it was off to dinner at Tritons for the Prince and Princess menu. Instead of a salad, I had soup tonight ... the Beast's Potato and Sausage Casserole Soup. It was reallllllly good! Barkley had the coronation of mixed leaves salad. For dinner Barkley had parma ham wrapped chicken breast stuffed with mozzarella cheese and tomatoes and fingerling potatoes. He didn't really care for it. I had the roasted filet of beef wellington (covered/surrounded with mushroom stuffing and puffed pastry) with fingerling potatoes and baby veggies. OK, I've always wanted to try beef wellington. Yummy beef surrounded by puffed pastry ... how can you go wrong? Well, I don't like mushrooms, so didn't do the mushroom stuffing. The little bit of puffed pastry I had ... was soggy. And the beef wasn't the greatest tasting. So, sorry to say, I was disappointed!
Tonight's show was a peformance by Susan Egan, who was the original Belle in Disney's Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. She's also voiced a character in Disney's Hercules and has starred in major Broadway hits like Chicago and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
1.16.11 - This morning was our deck's assigned time to have Ducky Williams autograph our lithograph. We had seen how long the lines got for this, so we got in line very early so we could actually sit and wait! We were allowed two items to be signed, so I had also purchased a post card of Snow White and the Dwarves in a ship's stateroom that he designed. He actually showed up early, so we got through the line quickly enough to go to a Q&A with Susan Egan and then an autograph session with her.
Caught some more football today (Bears over Seahawks and Jets over Patriots).
Tonight was the big Pirates IN the Caribbean party (although ironically we aren't in the Caribbean, we're in the Pacific). But I guess they didn't want to bother changing the name.
Dinner was in Animator's Palate tonight. We both had Mr. Smee's bib lettuce salad. I had the Dutchmen's dijon-crusted sirloin of beef and he had the Castaway chicken breast.
The show, before the big deck party, was "the Art of the Story," which showcased various techniques they use to tell stories in the movies (songs, narration, color and sound, etc.).
Then it was time for the big Pirates Deck Party. Lots of fun and energy. The good pirates come. Then the bad pirates (with Captain Hook) come. Then Mickey saves the day and they shoot off fireworks. Disney claims they are the only ship to set off fireworks at sea. But it's fun!
Then went through the buffet, where most people were getting giant turkey drumsticks to gnaw on. I got, though, a freshly made, hot off the griddle, crepe with ice cream and chocolate sauce and whipped cream. WoW! Yummmmmy!
Tonight's towel animal: a turtle with gold pirate coins for our nighttime chocolate!
Mexico, here we come!
