Day 6 - At Sea
1.11.11 - A day at sea today, heading to the Panama Canal! Last night we think we may have seen the lights on the shore of Colombia, but we're not sure.
This morning was our scheduled character breakfast (you get one scheduled breakfast with the characters each cruise). A little background on this ... on our first cruise, we went to this and basically, it stunk! The characters did not come to each table and greet you. All they did was do a little dance number in the middle of the restaurant, and where our table was located, the view was lousy. Needless to say we were very disappointed. So on our 2nd cruise, we didn't even bother getting up early to attend it.
Well, I had heard rumblings that they were back to having characters visit each table, so we thought this time around we'd give it a go. And they did come visit each table, and they take the time to snap a picture with your own camera! So we have photos of us with the six characters attending: Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, Pluto and Goofy. I also got to have my fave, chocolate chip pancakes, with a Mickey waffle and fruit salad. YUMMMMM!
That afternoon we grabbed some lunch at Goofy's Galley (a salad, watermelon and a turkey, bacon and provolone on multigrain bread sandwich) and then caught Casablanca in the Buena Vista Theatre. For me, who enjoys the "old classics," it was pretty cool to see Casablanca on the "big screen." (Barkley humored me and tagged along ... it's not his cup of tea, though). :)
We had dinner at Parrot Cay tonight (also location of the character breakfast), so we double dipped there today. We both had a Romaine salad (similar to a Caesar salad) and I had the Jamaican-marinated chicken tenderloin as an appetizer. At dinners I usually only chose a salad with no appetizer, but tonight thought I'd give this a try. It was a HUGE piece of chicken, almost a meal in itself. For dinner Barkley had a Caribbean-roasted chicken and I had the Island-spiced grilled ribeye with corn on the cob (it definitely was NOT WNY corn!) :)
Tonight's entertainment was an Argentinian trio, Los Pampas Gauchos, who danced, drummed and performed rope and whip tricks. Interesting. Different.
Tonight's towel animal was a lobster, along with a brochure about the Panama Canal. (Let me explain about the towel animals ... every night our stateroom host would perform turn down service for our bed, and often would create some sort of creature with towels, and leave us our goodnight chocolate). We had a great host. He was always friendly and did a great job!
Tomorrow will be an EARLY day as we'll be heading into the Panama Canal!
