Day 8 - At Sea
1.13.11 - Another day at sea, heading to Costa Rica.
We ate breakfast at Tritons this morning, which was a change from Beach Blanket Buffet where we usually ate. Alas, the food was so yummy we never took pictures of it. But we both had a trio with a pancake, waffle and French toast with bacon and a strawberry.
Author Ridley Pearson (who writes both adult crime novels as well as the juvenile series "Kingdom Keepers" and "Peter and the Starcatchers") spoke today about his Kingdom Keepers series. Book 1 takes place in the Magic Kingdom, Book 2 in the Animal Kingdom, Book 3 in Epcot, Book 4 (out in April) in Hollywood Studios, Book 5 will be on a Disney Cruise, specifically a Panama Canal Cruise!, and Books 6&7 will be at Disneyland. It was really interesting to hear how he researches the books and got to go behind the scenes and many of the rides to see how they work. Afterward he held a book signing.
After lunch at Beach Blanket Buffet, we went to the final Q&A session with Capt. Puckett, who answered questions as well as dicussed the new locks being built. He estimates the locks won't be done until 2016-2018 (although the people of Panama are hoping for 2014).
Dinner was at Animator's Palate tonight. We met Donald Duck while waiting outside the restaurant, and then caught another gorgeous sunset. Tonight Barkley had chicken and I had pork tenderloin, no pictures though. Sorry!
Tonight's show was "Toy Story: The Musical," which was really good. It had life-sized versions of all the beloved characters and followed the story of the original Toy Story movie. Very cute. Before the show, I bought a chocolate smoothie that came in a Toy Story 3 cup, with a light-up Buzz Lightyear on it. (AAA had given us a beverage credit, and since we aren't "drinkers," we used it to buy things like that or cans of soda at the shows, which weren't free ... they do have a free beverage station where you can get cups of soda up on the top deck).
Tonight's towel animal was an elephant (my favorite!!!) with a commemorative box/chest filled with games like checkers, chess, cribbage, backgammon, etc. Since this was the Wonder's "inaugural" cruise through the Panama Canal, we got lots of free goodies to commemorate it! Nice!
