Colleen Coble brings another exciting suspense series with her newest novel, “The View from Rainshadow Bay,” set off the West Coast’s Puget Sound in Washington.
Starting from the very beginning with a scene featuring a woman on the run from a bad man, the action in this book never ends. Picking up one year after the opening scene, Shauna McDade is still reeling from the death of her husband Jack — a climbing accident she still blames on Jack’s best buddy Zach Bannister.
After a series of mysterious deaths and incidents that hit a little close to home, Shauna finds herself having to put aside her resentment and work together with Zach to solve the mysteries — and protect herself and her son Alex.
And besides the murders, the town is also facing mysterious blobs forming in the bay and occasional earthquakes — another fear Shauna must overcome since losing her mother and siblings in a quake when she was a child.
Will the pair be able to solve the murders and determine what the villain wants from Shauna? And will they be able to overcome their past trauma and give in to the romance blooming between them?
Coble delivers yet another amazing, face-paced, keep-you-guessing thriller, filled with great and intriguing characters, just enough romance, and tons of lessons. “The View from Rainshadow Bay” deals with justice, forgiveness, overcoming resentment, faith and trust. It helps us face our fears and reminds us that we cannot allow fear to rule our lives. Offering a reminder of Romans 8:28 and God’s faithfulness throughout the story, it encourages us to remember that we don’t know what the future holds but we are “safe in the Lord’s arms.”
And a fun little fact: readers will recognize the briefly mentioned forensic artist Gwen Marcey from Carrie Stuart Parks’ novels.
I’m looking forward to the next Lavender Tides installment, “The House at Saltwater Point,” due in June 2018.
Five stars out of five.
