vision of who he is as the almighty, everlasting God, who is holy and yet merciful, jealous and yet loving, righteous and yet
forgiving.”
Ann Spangler’s “Praying the Attributes of God” provides a
devotional lesson for Monday through Friday, going through 17 different attributes of God.
Each week, the book starts on Monday with a key scripture, a
description of God’s nature in regard to that specific attribute, and background information through lots of scripture and scriptural images. Then, throughout the week, the devotionals give the reader specific scriptures to pray, helping them focus on that attribute (which include loving, jealous, wise, patient, holy and faithful – just to name a few). Friday’s lesson offers ways the reader can further reflect on God’s attribute they learned about that week.
Ann Spangler’s book offers great, yet short, devotionals for those who may feel they have limited time, to delve further into who God is. She encourages the reader to not settle for just a “thin vision of God,” but to truly hunger and thirst after Him.
“God’s attributes are facets of his character revealed in the Bible … God can enable us to experience him in deeper ways as we learn more about him.” That’s exactly what “Praying the Attributes of God” does. By focusing on one attribute of God for an entire week, it helps the reader truly dig deep into each of His attributes, not getting distracted by too many “topics” at once.
