“A Primary Decision” by Dr. Kevin Leman and Jeff Nesbit continues the stories of the Worthington siblings — Will, the head of American Frontier that’s still dealing with an Arctic oil fiasco; Sean, a mover and shaker in the non-governmental organization world; and Sarah, who is currently being vetted to be the next Attorney General.
The series’ third installment focuses primarily on Sarah’s story. Along with friends Darcy and Jon, she is still attempting to find out who is trying to incorrectly incriminate Sean’s involvement with the Polar Bear Bomber. She’s also preparing to becoming Attorney General, and take down President Spencer Rich, who could be involved with the bombing. And, with all this going on, she just might have her eye on a bigger prize.
Will the Worthingtons be able to reveal the true perpetrators behind several evil plots? Will they hold on to their own integrity? And will they be able to reach their own goals, both personally and professionally?
“A Primary Decision,” which is a timely story with our recent presidential election, is a great political thriller that deals with secrets and loyalty. Of course it prevalently features birth order characteristics, for which author Dr. Leman is quite well known. It also tackles issues like having compassion for the underprivileged and bullied, carrying each other’s burdens, faith, and to “do the right thing always.”
On a personal note, I love this series for the local connections it features — the family owns a home in Chautauqua Institution, a place down the road and where I grew up visiting in the summers; hometown communities like Jamestown, Celoron and Maple Springs; and local attractions like the Summer Wind and The Springs restaurant. It’s fun to read a book and be well aware of small town locations mentioned!
Although you could probably read this as a standalone, as the authors do a good job recapping the storylines from the first two books, I would highly recommend you read the first two book before tackling “A Primary Decision.” I just think it would help you truly understand the scope of the story and not feel confused.
Five stars out of five.
