Lisa Harris’ “Missing” picks up five weeks after the end of the series’ first novel, with Nikki Boyd getting called into a case with a double murder and two missing people.
While trying to find the missing couple — Mac and Lucy Hudson — Nikki, a member of Tennessee’s Missing Persons Special Task Force, must also figure out what her close friend, Tyler Grant, has to do with the situation, if anything, when a dead body related to the case is found on his boat.
What follows is a non-stop, action-packed novel featuring murder, death, kidnapping, bombs, cover-ups and counterfeit drugs. And while attempting to solve this bizarre case, Nikki continues to hunt down clues as to what happened to her sister, Sarah, who went missing 10 years ago.
“Missing” is mainly an intense thriller, but also features a bit of a blooming romance between Nikki and Tyler, who is still getting over the accidental death of his wife. Featuring very mild Christian themes, it does touch on faith, dealing with guilt and overcoming the past.
Harris does a great job moving the plot along quickly and succinctly, keeping the reader on the edge of his seat. You will not be able to put this book down.
You could read this novel as a standalone, but I would highly recommend reading “Vendetta” first. I can’t wait to read “Pursued” in the spring!
Five stars out of five.
