Patricia Bradley brings us another great installment in her Logan Point series with “Gone Without a Trace.” Filled with twists and turns, the author sprinkles enough legitimate clues, as well as red herrings, to keep the reader guessing “whodunnit” until the very end.
“Gone Without a Trace” brings back one of the series’ recurring characters — Olivia “Livy” Reynolds, a homicide detective in Memphis who is dealing with a recent traumatic on-the-job shooting, causing her to question her ability as a police officer. It also tells the story of Alex Jennings, a law school grad from Texas who is currently working as a private investigator and is trying to avoid his family’s attempts at him to take the bar exam.
The two meet when Alex’s case — searching for missing waitress Samantha Jo Woodson — has eerie similarities to Livy’s missing cousin Robyn. Alex and Livy must learn to trust and rely on each other to solve these missing cases.
“Gone Without a Trace” is filled with lots of action and suspense, and one weird, twisted aspect to the ending. Bradley has a great way of moving the story along, yet leaving you guessing. She also tackles topics of forgiveness and acceptance, and offers Christian themes on a minimal level: we can do all things through Christ; God has a plan for us; and God has the power to change any circumstance.
You’ll love these stories. The characters are great and relatable, as they are strong, yet flawed. Each book in the series could easily be read as a standalone, too. And on a weird note, these books just feel good in your hands.
Five stars out of five.
