Irene Hannon brings us another brilliant suspense thriller with “Dangerous Illusions,” the first in her Code of Honor series.
Art teacher Trish Bailey has had a devastating past two years — her family was involved in a car accident that killed her husband and father, and left her mother wheelchair bound. So Trish has been helping her mom recover, as well as helping her mom run her charitable foundation — along with assistance from accountant Matt Parker, who suddenly starts acting strangely.
When more tragic and mysterious occurrences happen to Trish, in steps Detective Colin Flynn. As Colin tries to get to the bottom of what is going on in Trish’s life — and who is truly to blame — an attraction grows between the pair.
“Dangerous Illusions” is a fast-paced, keep-you-guessing thriller with more twists and turns than you can imagine — including a huge twist you’ll never see coming. It also contains just the right amount of romance to lighten the mood as Trish and Colin grow closer and closer (with the help of her adorable neighbor Stan and his delicious homemade ice cream).
Hannon does a great job of drawing the reader in and taking them on an incredibly suspenseful ride, but she also helps the reader learn a few valuable lessons along the way — we should always listen to our heart; with God, we can always face tomorrow with hope instead of despair; God will always be with us; and nothing is impossible with God, no matter how bleak things may appear.
And an extra little gem Hannon offers her readers: the return of some well-loved characters from prior series, including Mac McGregor from the Men of Valor series and private investigator Cal Burke from the Private Justice series.
I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series, due out in October 2018, which is set to focus on Colin’s childhood friend Kristin. Therefore I’m guessing the series’ third installation will focus on Rick, the third member of their childhood Treehouse Gang.
Fans of Lynette Eason, Lisa Harris, Sandra Orchard or Janice Cantore will love Irene Hannon’s novels.
Five stars out of five.
