When Serena’s grandmother’s friend, Gladys, realizes her Dali painting has been exchanged for a forgery, Nana asks Serena to quietly look into it. But Serena quickly realizes there is more to the story … and it just might have something to do with the Russian mafia case her partner, Tanner, is looking into.
What follows is a funny, witty, quirky mystery tale, filled with robberies, forgeries, kidnappings and murder. And with this latest case, Serena continues to delve into the murder of her grandfather almost two decades ago — and trying to determine if today’s case has anything to do with his unsolved murder.
Serena is a great, relatable character. She’s not some perfect woman found on the page, but has very real flaws. And in “Another Day” she also continues to struggle between knowing her true feelings for two guys — partner Tanner and her building supervisor Nate.
Orchard masterfully brings her characters together to help Serena try to solve the case, right down to feisty and fun Aunt Martha, whom you will love!
While “Another Day, Another Dali” really doesn’t have a strong presence of spiritual lessons, characters do offer up quick prayers to God when in need of help. The novel also deals with the themes of overcoming guilt and shame, finding absolution, expectations of oneself as well as from others, and finding the real truth behind any situation.
The Serena Jones stories make up a fun, yet suspenseful series, and I can’t wait to read the next one.
Five stars out of five.
