Faith Marin is on the fast track to having a golden career as a TV news anchor when she meets the handsome Geary Marin while covering a fishing tournament. “A Reason to Stay” by Kellie Coates Gilbert follows their story as they quickly fall in love, but just as quickly begin to crumble apart.
As they struggle with their falling-apart marriage, an horrific incident at a news conference Faith is covering changes everything. Will Faith and Geary find a reason to fight for their relationship; will they find “a reason to stay”?
Gilbert tells the first part of the story by traveling back and forth in time, intermingling Faith and Geary’s love story with the present day aftermath of the terrible incident. “A Reason to Stay” is a great read, but it is also emotionally difficult to read due to its deep and impactful themes. It is a story of brokenness, isolation, learning to trust and forgive, reconciliation, and the sacrificial nature of love.
Faith must learn to give up control and let God direct her path, which is something we all find difficult to do at times. This novel reminds us all to find the “God-things” in our lives, and to know we are never too broken to receive love.
Gilbert also fills this book with great characters. You will absolutely love Geary’s kind — and crazy — family. And sweet little Conner will tweak your heartstrings.
You will laugh. You will cry. And your heart will be stirred.
Five stars out of five.
