Serena Jones has become a member of the FBI Art Crime Team after her grandfather was killed during an art theft years ago. Hoping to solve his murder and help others who have lost priceless artwork, she dedicates her life to solving these types of crimes.
Serena’s friend Zoe heads security at the local art museum, which has just realized two paintings — a Monet and a Rijckaert — are missing. Of course Zoe calls Serena in to investigate, and what follows is a crazy case filled with twists and turns.
Whodunit and why? Orchard does a great job of providing just enough clues to make you think you know who the culprit is, but withholding just enough clues to keep you guessing until the very end. And she provides great characters, especially Serena and her Aunt Martha, both who are spunky, sassy and just a little bit sarcastic at times.
Mostly a mystery, “A Fool & His Monet” has some romance, too, as both Tanner, her former field-training agent and current co-worker, and Nate, the building superintendent at her apartment, show interest in Serena. And the book does not really feature a lot of religious themes, other than characters occasionally offering up quick prayers in scary situations.
“A Fool & His Monet” was a great mystery, but also a lot of fun to read.
Five stars out of five.
