Baby Gerald visited his friend Anne of Green Gables today. That's Anne with an "e" ... and don't call her "carrots"!

“ ‘I stay focused on the One who really has control in this situation. He’s allowing this to happen for a reason. I don’t know what it is, but I trust that he’s got my back. … God never promised us perfect. Trouble is going to come … And unfortunately some people are going to seem to have more than their fair share. But he promised us he’d be with us in that trouble.’ ” Lynette Eason brings another fast-paced, action-filled book with “No Place to Hide,” the third installment of the Hidden Identity series. Someone wants to kill Ian Lockwood, who is also being called a “possible terrorist” and murderer. When his childhood friend, ex-cop Jackie Sellers who now works for Operation Refuge, comes to his home to see what’s truly going on with Ian, she quickly gets pulled into a crazy situation full of chases, shootings and terror. Jackie and Ian, who had been working on a malaria vaccine at Wainwright Labs, are forced to run and hide while trying to determine why Ian is being framed as a bioterrorist, and who is behind the framing. “No Place to Hide” is an intense read. Eason is such a great writer that many times I felt like I was pulled right into the story myself, as if I was also on the run with Ian and Jackie. It was almost exhausting, in a good way! The characters are interesting and well-developed, each with difficult pasts that have led them to their current positions … as well as their feelings about God. Ian has learned to love and trust God, but Jackie must learn and trust in the promise God makes us: “I will never leave you, nor forsake you.” Through past losses and current trials, they must both learn and grow to accept that God puts trials in our lives, and that bad things really do happen to good people sometimes. Jackie, especially, must learn to put her trust in God. “She just didn’t understand a God who let good people die while evil people seemed to live and flourish. … She believed in God, she just wasn’t sure she believed him. … No, the problem wasn’t trying to figure out if he was real, the problem was, she just didn’t trust him anymore. He’d thrown so many curve balls at her in her lifetime that she’d finally gotten tired of trying to dodge them.” Through this experience, they both learn that from God there is “no place to hide.” Readers will also love getting reacquainted with some of the Operation Refuge workers from past books, including Ron, David and Adam; and you’ll meet some new ones like Holly, Lucy and Gus. “No Place to Hide” is a great suspenseful thriller, sprinkled with some romance, and largely immersed with lessons on God’s love and protection. Five stars out of five.
