“Gift giving isn’t about spending. It’s about showing love and honor … Whoever we give to, we should give from the heart. We shouldn’t give just because it’s expected of us. Or because we expect to receive something in return.”
“Danger on a Silent Night” gives us an interesting perspective on the Christmas story shortly after Jesus’ birth, this time splitting up our characters Beth and Patrick.
When Beth decides she doesn’t want to give Christmas gifts this year so that she can give her money to the poor instead, Whit sends the cousins on a trip in the Imagination Station to the Holy Land, near the time of Christ’s birth. Beth lands as a servant girl at King Herod’s palace and Patrick lands with the caravan of Wise Men following the star to find the newborn King of the Jews.
Through her experiences, Beth learns the lesson of gift giving — that Christmas was about gifts and giving from the heart. After all, Jesus was the ultimate gift to mankind. She also learns that the size of the gift isn’t all that matters.
This twelfth installment is full of action as the two, along with their new friends Judith and Apellus, must stop Herod and his evil henchman, Brutus, from finding and killing baby Jesus.
“Danger on a Silent Night” is a fun tale, offering a different point of view of the Wise Men story and their search for baby Jesus. It also helps us learn the importance of giving gifts, whatever form or size they may come in, to those we care about.
This is a tale from the Adventures in Odyssey series, featuring strong moral tales and exciting action. The “Imagination Station” series is appropriate for children ages 7 and older.
Five stars out of five.
