OK, for the longest time I held off on reading the "Left Behind" books ... I guess you could say I held out for 16 years since the first book was published in 1995. I'm typically an anti-bandwagon reader. If "everyone" is reading a series, I refuse to join the hype.
But after recently watching the 1st couple of movies in the "Left Behind" series, my interest was grabbed.
I just finished reading the first book, "Left Behind," in the series and really enjoyed it. I thought it did a great job in simply presenting the salvation message, as well as simply explaining the "end times." The authors showed how simple it could be for the events of the end times to get rolling. The book really gives a good, modern-day explanation of the events found in Revelation and the 7-year timeframe.
In chapter 7, I also loved how Ray broke down verses in the last chapter of Revelation. Through his searching of the verses' meaning, a reader who may not have much biblical knowledge could easily understand the verses through Ray's searching.
A few minor complaints about the book: some conversations seemed to drag on a bit long between the characters; and I found the emotional impact lacking when the believers first "disappeared." I felt the authors really didn't show what the emotions would truly be when millions of people simply disappeared. But overall, a great book.
I'd give this book 4 1/2 stars out of 5!
