Nikki Boyd, a special agent with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Missing Persons Task Force, finds herself on a very bumpy plane ride — an explosive one you might even say. And with that, Lisa Harris’ “Pursued” turns into an action-packed story filled with bombings, murders, kidnapping, hostage situations, and pursuits — by both the good and bad guys.
When Erika, the woman sitting next to Nikki, disappears immediately after their plane crashes, Nikki is brought in by the FBI to search for Erika, who is a material witness set to testify against her money laundering boyfriend.
“Pursued” is a very fast book, taking place over a very brief time period — about 48 hours. Nikki and her partners, Jack and Gwen, work diligently to find both Erika and the man she’s supposed to testify against — Brian Russell, a man most people think of as a highly respected philanthropist. Nikki must put aside her own emotions to solve the case, and solve it before it’s too late.
And while all this drama is going on, Nikki is dealing with wanting to reconnect with Tyler after his three-month trip to Liberia, and to see if and where their relationship is heading — as well as dealing with a health issue that could sideline their relationship.
Besides being an awesome romantic thriller filled with great characters, “Pursued” addresses several great themes — how to deal with feeling like you are out of control; a need for peace; worrying, and its impact on you; and finding the strength you need in your darkest moments. It also reminds us that God is always in control, and that He always knows the answers, sometimes even before we know what the question is.
Lisa Harris has delivered another great thriller, with just the right amount of romance. It’s hard to put down!
Five stars out of five.
