Lynette Eason has delivered a can’t-put-it-down start to her new Lake City Heroes series with “Double Take.”
When physician’s assistant Lainie Jackson starts thinking she sees her dead ex-fiance, and near tragic events keep happening, she starts to question her sanity, and her safety.
Cole Garrison, Lainie’s best friend Steph’s brother, finds himself under Lainie’s care after being shot while on duty. He quickly learns of what’s happening to Lainie and offers to help her solve the odd case while he recovers from his injury. As they search deeper and deeper into if her fiancé Adam is truly still alive, and if not who is going through the effort to act as him and harm her, they begin to draw closer to each other. Can they overcome past issues from their lives and learn to trust and rely on each other?
Eason, as always, does an incredible job of developing a plot full of twists and turns, always leaving the reader guessing and wanting more. She also adds just the right amount of romance, all while creating great characters.
She also fills “Double Take” with some great themes, like learning to trust; overcoming one’s past; shouldering burdens and what happens when we take on too many; don’t quit and do what it takes to never give up; and rely on God for help.
Fans of romantic thrillers and authors like Irene Hannon, Colleen Coble and Patricia Bradley will love “Double Take,” which is due out Jan. 9.
Five stars out of five.
