Chloe St. John and her K-9 partner, Hank, respond to a horrific accident. Hank leads officers to discover not only drugs in one of the vehicles involved, but hidden girls that were set to be trafficked.
Blake MacCallum, a good friend of the St. John family, is a Deputy U.S. Marshal guarding a judge looking to harden the penalty against traffickers when his daughter Rachel is kidnapped with the threat of “kill the judge or we will kill your daughter.”
As Chloe and Blake come together to solve their cases, and determine the connection between the two, they begin to grow closer on a personal level.
Will Blake ever be able to rescue Rachel before it’s too late? Will he be able to repair the relationship with his missing daughter? And will Chloe be able to stop the trafficking ring, as well as find her cousin Penny who also disappeared six months ago?
“Called to Protect” is another awesome suspense thriller from Lynette Eason, with lots of great characters, like the strong and brave Chloe and Blake, her loyal yet adorable dog Hank, the incredibly supportive and sometimes wacky St. John clan, and the amazingly brave Rachel. I love how she always writes such strong female leads, especially. And Eason does a great job of moving the plot along, keeping readers guessing as to who is involved in the horrific criminal enterprise.
Eason also does a fantastic job of bringing awareness to a very real and very difficult reality that we face today — human trafficking and how easy it is for people to get sucked into it, and how difficult it is to end it.
Even though this is the second novel in her “Blue Justice” series, you could read “Called to Protect” as a standalone, although I’d highly recommend reading the series’ first novel “Oath of Honor,” which features sister Izzy, a detective and first responder, just because it’s a great novel.
Fans of Irene Hannon, Patricia Bradley and Sandra Orchard will love this series.
Five stars out of five.
