Rachel Hauck continues the story of volleyball phenom Avery Truitt and Brighton Kingdom’s Prince Colin in “A Royal Christmas Wedding.”
Her volleyball career sidelined by a rotator cuff injury, Avery is back home in St. Simons Island, Georgia, trying to decide her future path. When her sister, Susanna, wife to King Nathaniel II, invites Avery and their mother to spend the holidays in Brighton, Avery jumps at the chance to take a break from planning her future and celebrate a magical Christmas with family. There’s just one catch though — she just might run into her past love and heartbreak, Prince Colin, cousin to the king.
As Colin gets pulled into a 182-year-old legend — where a man rings the Pembroke Chapel bell to announce his true intentions for his one true love — he and Avery keep getting put together in situations, and must come to terms with their true emotions. Will they be able to overcome past obstacles and admit their love for one another?
“A Royal Christmas Wedding” is a super sweet love story and a truly lovely Christmas story. The characters are delightful, sweet and even, at times, funny.
But even more than just being a romance story, Hauck’s latest novel offers several amazing lessons — dealing with toppled dreams; the idea of “the good Lord doesn’t forget His own, does He?”; the impossible is only hindered by doubt and fear; faith isn’t easy; pleasing one’s father versus one’s Father; and the true meaning of Christmas — Jesus Christ.
This book definitely can be read as a standalone, as I had not read any of the prior books in the series and had no problem following the storyline. And it makes a delightful, and short, tale for this holiday season.
Five stars out of five.
